A retiarius (plural retiarii; literally, "net-man" or "net-fighter" in Latin) was a Roman gladiator who fought with equipment styled on that of a fisherman: a weighted net (rete, hence the name), a three-pointed trident (fuscina or tridens) and a dagger (pugio). The retiarius was lightly armoured, wearing an arm guard (manica) and a shoulder guard (galerus). Typically, his clothing consisted only of a loincloth (subligaculum) held in place by a wide belt, or of a short tunic with light padding. He wore no head protection or footwear.

A veles (plural Velites; ; literally, "skirmisher" in Latin) was a type of Roman Gladiator who fought on foot using a spear called a hasta. The Velites were named after a class of light infantry in the army of the Roman Republic and fought with the same weapons hasta and the sword gladius. They were lightly armored gladiators so they had the advantage of agility, mobility and speed. They did not fight in pairs but with a number of others who fought together as a common enemy. They would often re-enact battles on the arena.

The miniatures are Gripping Beast's and painted as a commission.
